The SafeJawz Marvel Series is a double-layered sports mouth guard. The outer layer takes the strike and spreads the force; the softer inner layer stays locked to the shape of your teeth. That is what separates a real gum shield from the flat single-layer ones sold in a blister pack at the pharmacy — those compress on the first heavy contact and stop protecting.

Wearing braces? Take an ortho model

A standard mouth guard moulded over braces will not fit properly, and can drag on the brackets. The ortho models are built for it — a softer channel that seats over fixed braces without forcing the teeth or catching the wire.

Two styles come in ortho: Spiderman Ortho and Captain America Ortho. Available in Adult .

If you are in braces and playing contact sport, this is not optional kit. Ask your orthodontist and they will tell you the same.

How to fit it — ninety seconds

1. Boil a kettle and let the water sit for 30 seconds off the boil.
2. Drop the guard in for 20–30 seconds. No longer — over-softening ruins the shape.
3. Lift it out, shake off the water, and check it is not too hot on your lip.
4. Seat it over your top teeth and bite down firmly. Suck in, and press the guard against your teeth and gums with your tongue and fingers for 20 seconds.
5. Take it out and drop it into cold water to set.

If the fit is off, repeat the process. The guard can be re-moulded. If it still will not seat after a second attempt, it is the wrong size.

Looking after it

Rinse in cold water after every session and let it air-dry before it goes back in the case — Hong Kong humidity is unforgiving on a guard left damp in a kitbag. Never leave it in a hot car or on a windowsill; heat will warp the mould. Replace it when the bite marks flatten out or the edges start to tear, which for a player training several times a week is usually every season.
