There are months in the rugby calendar where everything converges at once. July 2026 is one of them.
Across two tournaments on opposite sides of the globe, Pillar Sports has partners on both sides of the draw. That is not something we planned for when we started building these partnerships — it is simply where the game has taken us.
Here is what is happening, who is involved, and why this month means something to us.
World Rugby Nations Cup 2026: Samoa vs Hong Kong China

On July 5, the World Rugby Nations Cup 2026 opens in Santiago, Chile. Among the Round 1 matches: Lakapi Samoa against Hong Kong China Rugby at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos.
Both unions are Pillar Sports partners. We support each of them independently, and we are proud of both relationships.
Lakapi Samoa represents a proud rugby nation — a country where the sport runs deep in culture, community, and identity. Their path through international competition has not always been straightforward, but their commitment to the game is unconditional.
Hong Kong China Rugby is a partner we have worked alongside closely. They are building something real — developing rugby at all levels in Hong Kong, investing in education, and competing at the international stage with consistency.
On July 5, two unions we care about will line up across from each other in a packed stadium in South America. We will not be picking a side. But we will be watching.
🎯 The World Rugby Nations Cup brings together tier two nations from across the globe in a high-stakes round-robin format, giving unions like Samoa and Hong Kong China meaningful international competition at the highest level outside of the Rugby World Cup cycle.

Asia Rugby Men’s Unions Cup: A Potential Partner Clash in Bangkok
The second tournament is closer to home.
The Asia Rugby Men’s Unions Cup runs from July 12–18 in Bangkok, Thailand, with matchdays on July 12, 15, and 18. Eight teams — split into two groups — compete for a place in the semifinals. The top two from each group advance.
Two of those eight teams are Pillar Sports partners: Philippines Rugby and Singapore Rugby.

The Philippines come in as defending champions. They have built genuine momentum in Asian rugby and arrive in Bangkok with the confidence of a team that has been here before and knows what it takes to win.

Singapore Rugby is a side that continues to develop and compete with purpose. Their programme is building, and tournaments like this one are exactly where that progress gets tested.
Here is the thing: whether the two sides meet depends on how the groups fall and who advances through to the knockout rounds. A Philippines vs Singapore clash in the semifinals is not guaranteed — but it is possible.
💡 Pro Tip: The Asia Rugby Men’s Unions Cup is one of the most competitive regional tournaments on the Asian rugby calendar. With eight nations including Thailand (host), Chinese Taipei, Laos, Malaysia, Guam, and the Asian Barbarians, the group stage alone produces some of the hardest-fought rugby in the region.

If both partners make it through their 1st round matches, we could find ourselves in the same position as the Nations Cup — partners on both sides of a meaningful match, watching two teams we support go head to head.
We would not have it any other way.
What This Month Means for Pillar Sports
When we started building our partnership programme, the goal was straightforward: find teams and unions whose values align with ours, support them properly, and be part of their journey.
We did not set out to end up on both sides of two different international draws in the same month. But that is what genuine partnership growth looks like over time — the network expands, the relationships deepen, and the calendar starts to fill up with moments that matter.
Samoa and Hong Kong China squaring off in Santiago. Philippines and Singapore potentially clashing in Bangkok. In both cases, Pillar Sports sits in an unusual position — proud of every team involved, unwilling to choose, and genuinely invested in how each one performs.
That is the right kind of problem to have.
